At Eating Disorder Solutions, we deeply appreciate the crucial role of family in your loved one’s recovery journey. Your unwavering support and involvement are essential pillars in the path to healing, and we’re committed to ensuring you have all the resources and support you need to be fully engaged in this process.

From the very moment your loved one joins our program, we prioritize family and support engagement. Whether you’re able to visit in person or connect virtually, we want you to feel connected and valued as integral members of the recovery team. We offer various avenues for you to actively participate and contribute to your loved one’s recovery journey while they are in our care. From engaging in therapeutic activities to attending family sessions and educational workshops, you have numerous opportunities to play a significant role in supporting your loved one’s healing process.

We understand that family dynamics vary, and not everyone has traditional parental support systems. That’s why we extend a warm welcome to all forms of support networks, including friends, spouses, and found families. Your presence and engagement contribute significantly to the strength of your loved one’s support system.

Our approach is not just about providing eating disorder treatment to the individual; it’s about empowering entire families to navigate the complexities of recovery together. Through family therapy sessions and educational meetings, we offer a deeper understanding of the recovery journey and provide a safe space for you to express your concerns, fears, and hopes. Even better, our support extends beyond these sessions. If your loved one needs time to process what was discussed or reflect on their experiences, rest assured that our therapists and recovery coaches are readily available to provide assistance and guidance throughout their treatment journey.

Why is Family Support Essential in Eating Disorder Recovery?

We firmly believe that family involvement is essential for many reasons:

  • Support System: Support systems can provide invaluable emotional support to the individual struggling with an eating disorder. A supportive network can alleviate feelings of isolation and help the individual feel understood and accepted, which is essential for their recovery.
  • Identifying Triggers: Support systems often have insights into the individual’s triggers and behaviors that may contribute to the eating disorder. Your involvement allows for a better understanding and identification of these triggers, which can aid in creating a more effective treatment plan tailored to your loved one’s needs.
  • Creating a Nurturing Environment: Support system involvement can help create a nurturing and supportive environment at home, which is conducive to recovery. This environment may include fostering positive communication, promoting healthy eating habits, and reducing stressors that may exacerbate the eating disorder.
  • Education and Awareness: Being involved in the recovery process provides an opportunity for education and awareness about eating disorders. It helps you understand the challenges your loved one faces, dispels myths and misconceptions, and equips you with the knowledge and skills to offer appropriate support.
  • Long-term Recovery: Support involvement can contribute to long-term recovery by fostering stronger relationships and promoting sustainable lifestyle changes. By working together as a unit, you can help your loved one maintain progress, navigate challenges, and build resilience for the future.

At our facility, we strive to empower support systems by providing insight into their loved one’s journey of self-discovery and overcoming challenges. By introducing you to the recovery environment, we aim to alleviate any uncertainties and foster a sense of belonging and comfort.

Family Therapy Goals in Eating Disorder Treatment

Our goal is to optimize the benefits of family therapy by ensuring that support systems feel welcomed and empowered to participate fully. Think of it as learning a new language: your loved one is immersing themselves in the language of recovery, and we invite you to join in. While you may not be fluent in this language, our weekly sessions offer you the opportunity to gain insight into your loved one’s experiences and learn how best to support them. This understanding helps lay a stronger foundation for their aftercare, especially if they are preparing to return to their previous environment.

Weekly Family Therapy Sessions:

Our weekly support education groups offer a dedicated platform for you to engage with our therapists, connect with other families facing similar challenges, and gain valuable insights into the recovery process. During these sessions exclusively for family members and support networks,  one of our therapists conducts a psychoeducational meeting focused on eating disorder recovery. The client does not attend, allowing the support members to openly express their fears and anxieties and to learn more about what their loved one is experiencing without the pressure of the client being present.

Remember, you’re not alone in this journey. We’re here to support you and your loved one every step of the way, ensuring a brighter, healthier future together.
