Kelly's Eating Disorder Recovery Story
Kelly remembers struggling with her body and food as early as 12 years old. After going through trauma, she started seeking control wherever she could find it—through substances, and by obsessively controlling what and when she ate. Deep down, she knew her substance use was a problem. But when a clinician at her treatment center gently pointed out her disordered eating, she was stunned. “I didn’t think it was that bad,” she said. But the more she talked with a specialist, the more she realized just how much her eating habits had taken over—slowly damaging both her body and her mind.
After finishing substance abuse treatment, Kelly found Eating Disorder Solutions—and everything changed. With grit and a fiery spirit, she threw herself into the healing process. It wasn’t easy. Some days were incredibly hard. But looking back now, she knows it was worth every moment.
In her testimonial, Kelly opens up about her journey—from addiction to acceptance. She talks about what it felt like to walk through the doors of EDS for the first time, the powerful coping skills she’s learned, and how the support from staff and peers helped her begin to truly heal—not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually too.
Today, Kelly is hopeful and excited. She’s planning to go back to school, and for the first time in a long time, she feels ready to care for herself—cooking her own meals, managing her emotions, and continuing to grow into the strong, grounded person she’s always been.
