Compare Eating Disorders
Some eating disorders share overlapping behaviors, which can make them hard to tell apart from the outside. These side-by-side comparisons highlight the key clinical differences — not so you can self-diagnose, but so you know what questions to bring to a professional evaluation.
Anorexia vs. Bulimia
Both involve body image distortion — the key difference is weight presentation and eating pattern.
Bulimia vs. Binge Eating Disorder
Both involve binge episodes — what happens afterward is what separates them.
Orthorexia vs. Anorexia
Rigid food rules can look similar — the underlying motivation is different.
Anorexia vs. ARFID
Both can mean eating very little, for very different reasons.
Purging Disorder vs. Bulimia
Both involve regular purging — the difference is what happens right before it.
Disordered Eating vs. Eating Disorder
Not every irregular eating pattern meets the clinical bar for a diagnosis.
These comparisons are for educational purposes only and aren’t a diagnostic tool. Only a licensed clinician can diagnose an eating disorder.
